Alfred Parks Memorial Race

The race is named after something a man used to shout. Alfred "Pe" Parks, born in 1953, would call out "Ketch di bull fi mi!" on the road, and Belizean cycling never let go of it. Amandala files it alongside Anthony Hutchinson's "Vamos, paisa!" and Geovanni Choto's "Win da win!" among the phrases champions left behind. The bull is the bull, the live animal given as a station prize on the Cross Country, at Busman Arnold's farm in Floral Park in Parks's day and at Mount Hope since, and the line is an instruction to a teammate: go get it for me. Parks won the Cross Country in 1976 and again in 1979, riding through the decade he shared with Kenrick "Doc" Halliday, who took 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1978. Between them they held the seventies almost entirely.
