The Legacy
Most races are named for champions or benefactors. This one is named for a cleaner. Barbara Cleland worked on the staff at the university that runs the event, and she loved the racing enough to bring her family out to it year after year. When she died in 2014, her colleagues renamed the day in her honour, and the first Barbara Cleland Day of Races was held on 29 November 2015.
