About

The Legacy

Belize does not ease into a cycling season. It starts one. First run on 1 January 1991, the Classic has opened the calendar every year since. Michael "Big Wire" Lewis won that first edition out of Orange Walk Town, and Belizeans held the race for a decade, through Francisco Flores, Derrick Mahler, Douglas Lamb, Nigel Matus, Fred Usher and Ernest Meighan, before Guatemala's Miguel Perez broke the streak in 2001.
