National Championships

This is the only race in Belize where the prize is not money or a garland but a jersey, and the right to wear it for a year. It runs as a pair of championships over a weekend, the individual time trial first and the road race after, and every category takes its own national title: elite, under-23, junior, youth, masters, women. Nobody hides in a time trial. It is the one weekend of the year when a rider's condition is stated in public with no tactics to hide behind, which is why the results tend to predict the rest of the season.
