Career overview
Who they are
Altreith Smith won the race that changed everything. In 1948, with the road to San Ignacio finally complete, the Cross Country was run non-stop in a single day for the first time, and Smith was the rider who took it. A podium presence across a dozen years, he was second in 1941, 1942, 1950 and 1952 and third in 1951. Nearly eighty years on, the champion of every Classic still receives a trophy in his name.
