A living archive for Belizean cycling.

Breakaway is a mobile and web home for the sport of cycling in Belize: a living archive of the people, races and results that make up its history. It is built to be quick to use on race day and deep enough to sit with on every other day.

It is an independent editorial project. Breakaway is not currently affiliated with or operated by the Cycling Federation of Belize, and nothing here should be read as an official record or as federation endorsement.

Belize has a rich cycling history — but it isn’t kept in any one place. Today it lives across newspaper archives, federation records, spreadsheets on a single laptop, social media posts, boxes of photographs, and the personal collections and memories of the people who were there.

Scattered like that, the record is fragile. Every year a little more of it becomes harder to find, or goes quiet altogether. Breakaway exists to gather that history up, organize it, check it, and give it a permanent address so it can be preserved for the generations still to come.

The archive brings together riders and their careers, races and their editions, results and finishing orders, teams and rosters, rankings and standings, records, and full seasons — each built as a shareable, linkable page on the web and inside the app.

Records carry an editorial status so their level of verification is clear, and they can be improved over time as better evidence comes to light.

Information in Breakaway may come from official records, reporting, archival sources, and materials contributed by the community. Where a race has an official result, that result remains attributable to its organizer or governing body; Breakaway compiles and presents this history for editorial and archival purposes.

Historical records can conflict or remain incomplete. When they do, we aim to note it, and to correct the record as the evidence improves rather than pretend to a certainty we don’t have.

This archive gets better with help. If you spot an error — a wrong time, a missing rider, a misattributed win — you can report it, and we’ll review it before anything is changed. If you hold photographs, results, or other archival material, we’d genuinely like to hear from you.
